The situation of street drug addiction and homelessness is a worldwide crisis and has become a “SOCIAL EMERGENCY” (FEANTSA 2005).

Researchers acknowledge the glaring absence of updated data in this area. According to the 2014 World Drug report by the United Nations, 24.3 million people, in South Africa many of whom are between the ages of 12 years and 35 years, had used illicit drugs.

"Healing & Reform"
Inter-Sectoral Collaborations

It is beyond the scope of the Social Welfare sector alone to resolve the crisis of street drug addiction and homelessness. The street drug problem is a multi-faceted problem requiring a comprehensive and sustainable response, requiring expertise and interventions from across a number of sectors, recognizing that what happens in one organizational setting will influence and be influenced by interventions and processes occurring elsewhere.
